Players assume the role of a vibrant sea captain in the tumultuous 17th century whose sole ambition and drive is to become the most powerful person in the New World. Players choose between two campaigns: do they become an Adventurer or a Trader? Adventurer mode takes players on an adventure to take over the sea with piracy, bounty hunting, and raiding. Players do whatever it takes and take out whoever they need to to become the the rule of their own Caribbean empire. If they choose the Trader route, their conquest becomes less bloody and more methodical. Traders merely want to become a powerful Trader instead of a ruthless leader so instead of a path of destruction, they forge new routes for trade and help build the economy of the colonies. Multiplayer options and a mode that allows players to combine the Adventurer and Trader modes to create a unique, one of a kind story line.
