Like the original Sims series, gameplay centers on following the sims' lives from birth to death while fulfilling their daily needs. Now sims can age, experience fears and wants, and pursue life aspirations. Sims influence each other's actions, react to turn-ons and turn-offs and participate in dating and group outings. Through genetics, sims pass physical and personality traits to their children. Sims also develop memories of important life events. Three towns and a downtown neighborhood featuring various clubs, lounges, dance venues and bowling alleys are included. As a compilation of the base game, Nightlife expansion and Celebration stuff pack, the game includes specialty objects like drive-able cars, birthday and wedding decorations, evening-wear, buffet tables and staffed restaurant stoves. Fully three-dimensional modeling and an array of build and buy content allow the player to design and remodel realistic lots.
