An action hack-and-slash game by Secret Level and Sega, Golden Axe: Beast Rider is the first of the series to offer a game on a three-dimensional plane. Though this is a considerable shift to the usual 2D graphics veterans remember, the game still retains its general style of the series, such as riding beasts and using magic to defeat enemies. It is also the first game in the Golden Axe series to be rated Mature. Golden Axe: Beast Rider features three modes: Campaign, Trials and Challenge. Each allows players to earn tribute that can later be used to upgrade different stats, such as strength of magic spells, or new weapons to use in the main game. Armor can be unlocked simply by progressing along through the main campaign and completing more parts of the story. The Challenge mode is the same as the campaign but with the ability to replay previous levels.
